Events leading up to the wreck
The recent California crash took place on Interstate 805. Police said a 21-year-old man was driving north on the highway and crashed into the back of a sport utility vehicle. The man was allegedly speeding at the time of the crash.
The 58-year-old man driving the sport utility vehicle was killed in the collision. Meanwhile, the man driving the car suffered injuries and was transported to a medical center. Police then took him into custody for reportedly driving while intoxicated.
How an attorney can help
The man accused of killing the other driver may face imprisonment, a fine and the revocation of his driver’s license if convicted of his criminal charge in California. However, he has the right to fight the formal accusations in court. The prosecution must prove the charge beyond a reasonable doubt before a conviction can occur. The man’s attorney may suggest seeking a plea deal with prosecutors instead if the evidence they intend to present in court appears to be strong. The attorney will push for the most personally favorable outcome for the accused individual given the circumstances surrounding the alleged DUI accident.
