On Behalf of | Nov 12, 2023 | CRIMINAL LAW - Drunk Driving

A woman was arrested in California after reportedly injuring another individual in a drunk-driving crash. The accident took place during the early morning hours on a recent Saturday. It occurred along Interstate 5.

Events leading up to the crash

The alleged DUI accident took place a little past midnight. The California Highway Patrol said when they arrived at the scene of the accident, they discovered that the woman driving the car involved in the crash was inebriated. Her passenger suffered injuries in the motor vehicle wreck.

Authorities arrested the 26-year-old driver and accused her of drinking and driving. She faces a felony DUI since the passenger was hurt in the collision. A bail of $100,000 was set for the woman.

How an attorney can help

The woman accused of drinking and driving in California has a couple of options. The first is to go to trial. If the woman goes to trial, the prosecution must prove the charges filed against her beyond a reasonable doubt before a conviction is possible. An attorney can help the woman challenge the prosecution’s arguments and evidence.

The second option is to strike a plea deal with prosecutors. This may lead to a lesser charge and lighter sentence than what may result from a guilty verdict at trial. It might be a better option if the woman prefers to avoid the unpredictability of going to trial. An attorney in California can help the woman understand her rights and advise her on how best to approach her criminal case.
